Starting Therapy

what to expect

You are ready to begin therapy when you commit to set aside some time each week to focus on your mental health, your happiness and your well-being.

Having good rapport with a therapist is the most important factor in determining the success of therapy, so find yourself a therapist you can feel comfortable with.

Creative arts therapy combines verbal psychotherapy with creative tasks.

Art therapy can support decision-making by engaging both the right and left hemispheres of the brain, facilitating a more balanced and integrated cognitive and emotional process.

Right Brain: Intuition, emotion, images access inner feelings, unconscious motivations

Left Brain: Logic, analysis, language to reflect, interpret, plan actions

Together: Integration leads to balanced, deeper decision-making

FIRST SESSION

If you will be having in person sessions, I will supply art materials. You will also be encouraged to keep a journal including drawings, poetry or writing.

If your sessions are virtual, you will need some basic art materials including blank (unlined) paper in a sketchbook, and some drawing materials to work in color.
